-Missing Appendage: Brian is missing the pinky on his right hand.  He's had it replaced with a pseudo flesh prosthetic that doesn't use a neural link, but instead moves when the adjacent finger moves.  Allowing him to function almost normally, though he has to type without it.  The fingertip is removable, and fits a dataplug that he keeps the ship's finances on.  The entire finger can be removed leaving only a titanium post jutting from the damaged joint.
