 Dark Past: Brian changed his identity to Brian Anvil after fleeing the Terran military.  He keeps his past a secret and doesn't often use video chat as to ensure that his face doesn't get around much.  But in the ten years he's operated in the belt the Terrans haven't come for him, so apparently they either think him dead or don't care to come after him and risk political hurdles just for an AWOL charge.
-Family Feud: A while back Brian got on the wrong side of the Kerenkov clan.  A family of asteroid belt traders.  They tried to jack his salvage and he sent them running with a broken ship and no cargo.
