Sept of Lone Oak

Type: Cunning
Level: 1
Totem: Florida Man

History

Long before the first shots of the world wars were fired, the Glass Walkers had set up shop in the city of Jacksonville. Consecrating their power around the Lone Oak tree, when the bombs started to drop and ships began to sink. The Jacksonville Glass Walkers set up their base of operations in the downtown area, where they would use Clashing Boom Boom's influence to ensure the nearby place of wyld based around the Oak tree in the middle of the area would remain tall and undefiled by the Wyrm.
The Glass Walkers grew big and cocky, feeling themselves immortal as they dominated the air with their totem. That was until the war ended and the air hanger near the place of wyld was decommissioned. In a panic, the Garou tried to purchase the land around the tree but got blocked again and again. Forcing it into a legal deadlock between the private businesses and the Garou who wanted it. Eventually the contract was dissolved and it was turned into a municipal city park, right next to the old air hanger and now scrapyard.
During the late 80s however, a Garou was born in Russia to a family of Silver Fangs. A massive baby whose birth hurt his own mother. He was bigger than a Crinos' claw when he was a newborn, this baby was known as Charles Weight, soon to be deeded 'Big Chuck'.
Nobody knows much about his early years, what they do know is that he was given a good home, but conflict arose in his homeland, or in his family, and he decided to make a name for himself elsewhere. Without his family ties. He travelled from Russia to Africa, visiting many Septs and Cearns to learn about Garou culture and spread his knowledge among spirits.
Eventually he would answer a different call. Following the guidance of the spirit, Big Chuck took a moon bridge across the sea and ended up in Miami. Where he was guided north to the lone Oak Tree in the middle of Jacksonville. He sensed the power residing within, and agreed to protect it. Quickly, the Kinfolk of the old Glass Walker sept set to work obtaining the rights to the scrapyard. These Kinfolk continue to dominate local city council to ensure the Scrapyard remains in their hands and that they keep the park static.
In the early 2020s, Orange Park would come under threat by a company who wanted to bulldoze the scrapyard and therefore destroy the tree. By the combined might of the council, namely the infernal court's Michael Radcliffe and Joy Livingstone, they were able to protect the tree and the cearn from destruction.
During the rite of Pizza to celebrate, however, Big Chuck found that the tree was awakening. Popping onto the other side, he and the rest of the party found their new totem. The totem of Florida Man was hiding within, and had finally been awoken.

Descriptions

Cearn:
The Cearn of Lone Oak holds the pulses of power that most urban septs would have. On the physical the Cearn presents itself as the Lone Oak the sept is named for. The somewhat dead tree that grows it's own leaves and flora holds great power within that's just waiting to be fed more gnosis so it can unleash it's ancient spiritual power.
In the Umbra however the tree grows to a greater height. Taller then most of the surrounding houses and growing around the sept's junkyard with it's many long dead branches that penetrate into the surrounding city's buildings and Orange park area.
Bawn:
The junkyard surrounding Lone Oak. To the outside observer it's nothing more then that, a simple scrapyard owned by the city. To the Bone Gnawers however it's a near perfect hiding spot with hidden houses fashioned out of scrap and old run down cars. School buses hide the elders various meetings, trash barrels serve as Kennels for the Lupus born and old rusted car stacks made into walls and trash heap platforms provide the Sept ample choke points and high platforms to watch and lunge out from. Without a guide you'll likely get lost in the great maze made by the sept guardians and it's Warder.
Many different rites such as the Rite of the signpost and Rite of No Trespassing, work together in order to ensure no trespasser end up on the sept. Though the most effective tool is the barbed wire and locked fence gate surrounding the sept that keeps people out.
Sept:
The Sept of Lone Oak uses an old rusted World War air hanger on the Junkyard as it's sept gathering point. Inside are many tents and sleeping areas the elders and their kinfolk use as a resting point. During harsh seasons the door opens for the Kinfolk and Garou to all sleep inside to avoid the horrible conditions that attacks the sept. Mostly this is related to cop presence, extreme heat and occasionally the extreme cold.
The whole air hanger has a grand rite of the Carboard Palace placed upon it to ensure perfect conditions inside and out.
At the very end of the hall stands Big Chuck's 'throne' as it's joking called, though in truth it's a giant chair. The only one the Garou have found that will fit him. Two oil barrel fires stand at either end of the throne area where the light strike Big Chuck. People will often approach him on this throne to ask for certain things.
During Tribal Moots the sept is converted to a dining area, with park benches and tables 'borrowed' from the surrounding area. Once the Garou are settled in a massive order for pizza and takeaway is placed for everyone to eat. During the moots the Ragabash hold a fun festival that parodies the Rite of Pizza by ordering the biggest pizza combination possible and trying to delay the order above thirty minutes. Despite local services no longer doing the '30 minutes or it's free' policy it's still a fun game to have. The Winner gets the whole pizza.

Spirits

Jagglings:

  • Various spirits of trash discarded in the dumpsters and scrapheaps around the sept
    • Plastic, shy and non-confrontational
    • Glass, shattered glass abominations that defend Lonely Oak.
    • Electricity, Three to be exact: Crack, Snapple and Pop. Made from the old thrown out electronics piled around the scrapyard, they're made to keep things running. They power most of the sept's other electronics.

Gafflings:

  • Oak spirits surrounding the lone tree
  • Rusted metal elementals surrounding the cars and scrap
  • Rats, loyal defenders of the Sept from the shadows.
