**Description**\\

Satoru is youthful in appearance, and visibly dominated by his yang chi. Scars riddle his body, and his nose his crooked from multiple blunt impacts. He keeps his black hair short but not bald (easier to blend in a crowd), and dresses mostly in dark-colored athletic wear such as sweatpants, t-shirt, and sneakers. A duffel bag is slung to his back, and he normally keeps the hood of his hoodie up. Dark green eyes are constantly glancing around him, and a jade pendant is tucked away under his shirt.

**Background**\\

Satoru was dragged into the Dark from an early age, quite literally. An insatiable Shen had come to their family's home on a whim, hunting and devouring one by one until all that were left were Satoru 
and his mother Mizuko, huddled together in a closet. He was barely 4, but the hand clutching over his mouth communicated a terror and need for silence that he knew at even that age. The footsteps, slicked
with liquid, came closer and closer. His mother kissed his forehead, then told him to run when he heard the monster go away. His mother picked up a shovel from the closet and went out to draw the thing in the
dark away. Moments later, he heard the sounds of combat.There was a howl, then a scream, and a floor-shaking metallic impact. The sound was an actual fight, rather than a slaughter, and Satoru crept out to investigate.
His mother moved impossibly fast, wielding the shovel like Excalibur and shattering the shen's fanged maw with a single well-placed kick. While it reeled, she surged forward for the kill and sliced with the edge of the shovel
what seemed to be a dozen times in a few seconds. The creature had caught the family by surprise, having scuttled along the ceiling, but it was no match for a mother's fury combined with what seemed to be years of training.


When the thing's chitinous head was smashed to a pulp and sawed off, Mizuko collapsed and Satoru ran to hug her. His mother was bold and strong, but this life had softened her. She had finished a great task and
disappeared to start a family, but a curse had chased her to take away what she thought was not hers. With Satoru remaining, she understood her fate. His training began, so put the wayward Shen back in their place.


The training was long, brutal, and necessary at every moment. His mornings would begin with an attack he must defend against, food had to be won, rest infrequent and vital. It took time, though, for him to be brought on his mother's
hunts though she was surprised at how effective and clever he could be. Satoru learned about just how extensive his mother's network of favors was, and how even the government knew of her and communicated with her. Eventually, however,
she left him behind with only a note that he was ready, and she prayed he died an old man who didn't make the same mistakes she did.


One investigation, however, changed his life irrevocably. He had come onto the trail of people who vanished in and around self-help groups for people fighting addiction. The connections took him through the underworld, to the dens that
the shen make for themselves within Tokyo's underbelly, and eventually the trail took him into the halls of the Diet itself. A politician had been diverting public funds to specific charities, never repeating the same one, but each of them with
exactly enough money for the same MO: Gather addicts, the homeless, and people with no connections or support structures of their own (NEETs especially), then invite voracious and powerful Shen that he'd then curry favor with.


Strike Force Zero arrived too late, once the known Shih had shown up on a hidden security camera. By the time they had surrounded him, weapons drawn, Satoru's katana was already slick with the politician's blood, who was laying face down on their desk
with a cut through the back of their neck. Satoru realized he was unable to fight his way out, and surrendered to avoid more corpses. He answered all questions when asked, though he had no evidence to give them. SF0 was unsure of how to handle him,
as he could be an asset but they couldn't simply let him waltz off after killing a government official in cold blood even when they found out his story checked out. Instead, they imprisoned him while they decided what to do with him. That was a year ago.


Something has worried them, to the point that all options are now on the table. Satoru is being brought out of solitary confinement, and his weaponry he had collected is being returned to him. A tracking chip will be installed in his neck (they were worried he'd
cut a limb off if he decided to go to ground), and a Handler assigned to him that he must stay in regular contact with or risk being hunted down. To his surprise, he is being sent to America, with details given to him en route. If he completes his task
to the best of his ability, then he will receive a second chance. Failure, or escape, or any sort of trickery will result in irreversible consequences. Mercifully, SF0 realized it'd be hard to keep track of someone constantly on the move, and so they bankrolled a single safehouse for
him that they insist he use. He assumes it's filled to the brim with surveillance equipment. His gear is also stored there, so at least he has that to look forward to.


He will survive this, and he will continue his work. He just hates the suspense.
