-Harold Wells is 6'2" tall with medium-length black hair, a black Mephistophelian goatee, neatly trimmed. He wears the shirt and collar that one would expect to see on a Catholic priest, along with a necklace upon which rests the pentagram with the Goat of Mendes, the sign of Baphomet. Deep scars encircle his eyes, only partly obscured by his eyebrows. Similar scars encircle his wrists, and another, encircling his neck, occasionally can be seen poking up from the collar of his shirt. -Harold Wells believes in living life to its fullest in the here and now. Even as an immortal being, he grasps the idea that each moment is unique and should not be squandered. He doesn't suffer fools. He believes in responsibility for the responsible, treating others as they treat him, and treating others as he wants to be treated until the moment that they do something to earn his ire, in which case, he believes in dealing with them justly, and also harshly, but not in excess of how they've conducted themselves.

-THE FIRST LIFE\

-Nubkaura-ankh was a High Priest of Re, during the time of the Middle Kingdom, who had been personally blessed by the Sun God. Although his story is largely lost to history, Shemsu-Heru scholars tell tales of his great faith driving back vampires and even causing them to burst into flames. None would ever have been able to suspect, were they to know of a future in which the nature of the Spell of Life changes so much, that he would ultimately become the Tem-akh of an Udja-sen who is by no means spiritual, nor how well they would compliment one another.\

-THE SECOND LIFE\
-===============\
-Harold Wells was born on Halloween night, 1980, in a cab that didn't quite make it from a Chinese restaurant to the hospital, given how bad traffic got, even back then. His home life was relatively unremarkable. His parents were neither severely restrictive, nor even moderately abusive. No one could explain why young Harold was so reserved, but this trait seemed to disappear (enough that even Harold believed that it had) until later in his life. As Harold got into middle-school, he became attracted to the occult, although with a skeptical eye.\

-He was by no means a believer. The occult interested him in more intellectual ways; he was curious if there was anything about it that could be chalked up to people simply not understanding things and thereby attributing otherworldliness to it. He also believed that some things might seem otherworldly, but still exist and have a rational explanation, such as ghosts being imprinted echoes, but not actual spirits of the departed. When he discovered the Church of Satan, he felt right at home with their outlook on life; he saw himself reflected in the pages of the Satanic Bible.\

-The Church of Satan doesn't accept children, and the more that he learned about them, the more certain he was that he would apply for membership. At only ten years old, he decided that, when he was a couple of months shy of his 18th birthday, he would send the payment and request letter, noting his birthdate and asking that he be admitted to join upon his birthday. Of course, like any reasonably adjusted boy, his religious views weren't all that there was to his life and the things that interested him. He was something of a daredevil, which wasn't tempered as much as it should be, but was at least tempered somewhat by his belief that self-preservation is the highest law.\

-Sufficed to say, he was no stranger to stunts like backyard wrestling from rooftops, dangerous tricks with skateboards without consideration of protection (or at least very little), and the like. He experimented a little with drugs, but he never went crazy with that stuff. One thing that he never did was to drive under the influence. Harold didn't need public safety messages to drive that point home. He'd lost some friends and some family to drunk driving, in the case of family, a first cousin was killed when she was struck by a drunk driver while walking home from school, and in the case of a friend, one of his buddies, C.J., was driving while shitfaced and wound up drowning in a canal after flipping his car upside-down, only to then be partly devoured by alligators before his body could be retrieved.\

-When Harold reached his 18th birthday, he joined the Church of Satan and quickly immersed himself in the CoS and also in community activities that sparked his interest. Over the first thirteen years of his membership, he held an inactive membership. In other words, he was a member of the CoS and kept up to date on significant matters, but it wasn't something that he shared. He didn't outwardly advocate as any sort of a spokesman for the organisation.\

-Eventually, Harold decided to take a more active role in the CoS. Filing for active membership involves indepth questioning and background checks. The Church of Satan doesn't employ felons and nutjobs to represent the organisation.\

-\The wait time between submitting a request for active membership and the reply can take months, sometimes years, due not only to thoroughness, but also to the backlog of work being done by the Council of Nine. By sheer happenstance, he received his letter of approval for active membership on his 21st birthday, officially joining the First Degree and being an active member, and in contact with other like-minded and active individuals. Meanwhile, he was also working hard at his next couple of books and conducting more tours than in prior years.\

-In July of 2002, he married a woman only a couple of months younger than himself, who had also been an active member of the CoS. Her name was Mira Brando. With Brando literally meaning fire, and rapidly having been granted the rank of Witch out of recognition for her achievements as an artist, she was officially able to publicly represent the CoS, which she did under the moniker of, Witch Hellfire.\

-When it came to matters involving the CoS, Mira was the first of them to be granted a higher rank within the CoS in any way (which is always granted, and never given upon a request - it's a meritocracy, you'll get it if you earn the esteem), even before the pair had started dating. Harold had only just the rank of Warlock earlier in their relationship, and they largely represented the CoS independently of one another, although she would occasionally take part in some interviews and podcasts with Harold. These podcasts were largely done with other members who had, at the very least, reached the rank of Priest or Priestess, very much in a Q & A format. When it came to their other broad interests, Mira's passion was for art and sculpture, while Harold, on the other hand, was more of a bookworm.\

-He enjoyed telling stories about the seedier side of Starke's history, and he had enough of a flare for the dramatic that he could draw crowds and get paid well to regale people, many being repeat customers, with tales of the past. Harold's charismatic sway and ability to draw a crowd was a prime example of the application of what the Church of Satan calls, Lesser Magic. His wife, Mira, began teaching art to students, mostly girls. The couple would have their first child, a son, who they named, Leviathan Alexander (after Alexander the Great) Wells when they were 25 years old, on 19-November-2005.\

-The Satanic Panic, wherein people believed all sorts of crazy horror stories about the CoS engaging in murders and the like, had been debunked toward the end of the 90s, with significantly less people buying into such nonsense, or even caring about it at all. On the other hand, the world post 11-September-2001 had become a jungle of conspiracy theories, especially on the internet. Having become concerned that this could potentially spill over into a small resurgence of the Satanic Panic, as people draw crazy, non-existent connections, Harold became more active on the internet, posting videos on video-sharing sites, such as YouTube, wherein he would discuss topics regarding Satanism and work to dispel myths.\

-This was something that, to an extent, Harold already did, but with his infant son in the picture, and with seemingly no end in sight to the weirdo conspiracies out there, both he and Mira felt it best that they ramp up their activities. Both were well aware of how people could get whipped into a tizzy, and they wanted to ensure that their son would grow up in a more rational world. It's through these increased activities that Harold drew the attention of some crazy people, including one who would come to obsess over him and see him as a lurking danger.\

-Meanwhile, Harold was still prone to risky behaviour. It could be argued that it had been toned down a little, but in spite of that highest of all laws, self-preservation, he had a few close calls with death, such as with trips to go cliff jumping. For Harold, it was more about the thrill, but Mira and Leviathan were grounding factors in his life that got him taking significantly less risks than he was wanting to do (not out of any urge of self-destruction, but for the sheer fun of it). Then, of course, there was that creepy "admirer".\

-Harold responded to the occasional crazy Email by keeping records but never replying. In this regard, he and Mira were in agreement. The last thing that either of them really wanted to do was to give this "troll" validation.\

-Harold continued to move up through the ranks within the CoS. By the time that he was 29, he was given the title of Warlock, as he became a Second Degree member of the hierarchy of the organisation. As with anyone else, this promotion was granted out of recognition and respect for his real-life accomplishments.\

-Regarding these accomplishments, he made a lucrative, successful living digging up interesting points about the history of Starke (nothing that came close to endangering the Veil, but many dirty secrets of antiquity nonetheless, and a few things that he knew to keep to himself and not to share or let on that he knew), and by giving some more eccentric tours of Starke. He would conduct the odd tour that delved into the rich nightlife of Starke, and he made a decent income as an author, both of books about Starke and surrounding areas in Florida. He also wrote various fictional works involving demons, vampires, and the other usual suspects.\

-When Harold and Mira were 34 years and change, and their son, Leviathan, was 9, he was granted the title of Priest, having reached the Third Degree in the hierarchy of the CoS, in further recognition of his personal achievements in life and continued advocacy of the Church of Satan, wherein he had proven himself to be an accomplished speaker capable of properly and clearly representing the philosophy. Also because of this, he continued to get the harassing emails, to the point that he eventually had enough (which is to say, "loads") and turned them over to law enforcement; he was taking no chances, especially with a young son under his care. This resulted in the identification of the man who would eventually kill him, who was given a restraining order that would ultimately do nothing to stop him, but that outcome was still a long way off.\

-At the age of 41, again on his birthday, but this time by intent and careful planning on the part of the Council of Nine, he received the title of Magister, having reached the Fourth Degree in the hierarchy of the Church of Satan. His wife had attained this rank a few years prior, now using the Moniker, Magistra Hellfire. Those who hold the Third through the Fifth Degree are members of the Priesthood of Mendez; individuals with these titles may be called, Reverend. While Mira used the moniker of Magistra Hellfire while representing the CoS, Harold used the moniker of Reverend Wells, occasionally using Magister Wells.\

-Everything nearly ended for him, once more on his 42nd birthday, this time being Halloween of 2022, but didn't. Adrian Linder, the man who had sent him threatening emails, and had restraining orders on him for years, finally tracked him down and decided to act upon his convictions. He had a friend, Jasmine Rose (her parents weren't very original in naming her), who was an amateur reporter, who had listened to him rant and rave about this internet Satanist for years.\

-Jasmine was with him at the time, but for very different reasons. She was trying to talk her friend, who she believed was going to try to beat up Harold, off of the ledge. She was shocked, every bit as much as Harold was caught by surprise, when Adrian, who Harold hadn't noticed, rushed up to Harold as he drew a gun with a silencer, put it to the back of Harold's skull, and said, "You should have heeded my warnings, motherfucking baby killer!" and squeezed off a shot that exited through his left eye and dropped him, dead upon impact. Jasmine was hysterical, and Adrian was trying to get her to focus and help him hide the body when he got back up.\

-THE HAJJ\

-Ask any Satanist; self-preservation is the highest law. When Nubkaura-ankh, the ghost of an Egyptian priest, told Harold that he could live again, Harold was surprised, but not foolish. An afterlife, he quickly surmised, is probably something best kept from people, or people will do stupid things with less fear of the consequences, but he also realised that this was beside the point. If he would refuse, he would remain dead, but if he would agree to Nubkaura-ankh's offer, then he would live again - live forever.\

-Nubkaura-ankh spoke quickly, but clearly and distinctly. Regardless of their very different outlooks, one thing was plainly obvious. Harold was dead, and if he didn't accept Nubkaura-ankh's offer, his fate was an uncertain one in all but one regard: Harold would remain  dead.\

-As everything was explained to him, Harold heard Nubkaura-ank out, and then he replied, "Very well! I will accept your offer. As an accuser, I will help with this balance of yours by pointing out the failures and hypocricy of your - our - fellows, in so doing, bettering their path, but understand that this will be on My terms." "So long as your rational self-interest remains rational, so be it," warned Nubkaura-ankh, "but know that when rational self-interest ceases to be rational, should you then cross the line and oppose Ma'at, know that we are judged between lives, just as we must be judged to live again as one. You don't have to accept that they are gods, but do not doubt that what is given to us can be taken." Harold smiled, "Don't forget responsibility for one's own actions. I choose life."\

-"Good," said the ancient ghost, "now, go to sleep," and he reached out toward Harold, who lost consciousness as his body, now under the control of Nubkaura-ankh, healed almost completely the gunshot wound that had been inflicted upon it, and he stood up, animated but still deceased. Adrian and Jasmine were shocked, not just because of the effects of the Veil, when Harold got back up again. Jasmine froze in horror, but Adrian went on the offensive. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't as fast as the Tem-akh-driven corpse of Harold Wells, nor nearly as resilient.\

-Two shots to the chest didn't even slow Harold down. Before Adrian could squeeze off a third shot, Harold's Tem-akh-driven corpse grabbed both sides of his head and quickly, viciously snapped his neck. He dropped the fresh corpse to the ground as Jasmine ran off, too scared to be capable of screaming. Nubkaura-ankh was able to flee with Harold, quick enough that the local Amenti weren't even able to react before he had smuggled himself onto a boat. Eventually, with a few close calls and ship changes, they arrived in Alexandria, where the Cult of Isis were able to escort them Cairo, and finally, after a rushed but correctly performed Spell of Life, to Edfu.\

-Nubkaura-ankh and Harold Wells would ultimately find themselves in the Hall of Two Truths, with Anubis weighing Harold's heart against the Feather of Truth. Harold was wise enough not to try to piss off the beings before them, but even in their presence, he didn't think of them as gods so much as people whose power and achievements elevated them in ways that few could attain, and that they had tapped into something that science had yet to grasp, if it ever even could. He was fascinated by the process, watching with undivided attention as his heart was weighed.\

-Interestingly, where most Udja-sen result in the Nehem-sen being flawed so badly that the Tem-akh must be spread thin, the opposite was what was happening here. For while Nubkaura-ankh had great faith in Ra when he was alive, such that it empowered him like few others, he had a great number of deep-seated flaws that continually worked against that faith. In his time in the Underworld, prior to the Dja-akh destroying so much of him that only his tattered Ka remained, his Khaibit had feasted, having come perilously close to finally devouring him wholesale and making a Spectre of him.\

-Ironically, it was the Dja-akh, the very spirit storm that endangered his existence, that had saved him in the end. Unfortunately, it meant that he was not the most fit of Tem-akh, so the Judges of Ma'at told Harold how when two are brought to be joined and found unworthy, most of these are fed to Ammit and destroyed, while some become Judged Ones. Because this was so unusual, they would allow him to survive, destroying only Nubkaura-ankh, and granting him a better Ka if he agreed, or he could accept Nubkaura-ankh, and while he would lose most of himself in Harold, he would survive to some degree within the man that they would both become.\

-Harold said that were it not for Nubkaura-ankh, he would be lost to whatever fate awaited the dead. "Self-preservation is the highest law," he stated to the Judges of Ma'at, unknowing that this was a test that would determine if they were to be fed to Ammit; there was no other Tem-akh truly being offered to him. He added, "As I see it, we're in this together; I owe him that." "Then it it settled," they said with one voice, "and the blessing bestowed by the sun upon Nubkaura-ankh will be yours as well, safeguarding you from Apophis' brood. Ask those who instruct you about Forbiddance." With that, Harold lost consciousness as he and Nubkaura-ankh were bound together permanently, and he awoke in the Land of the Living, in his fully-living body.\

-THE THIRD LIFE\

-Harold arose from the Resurrection confused and in a mild panic. He was soon calmed, and he'd been informed that his wife and son had been given a cover story. They had been made to believe that he was abducted, that his abductors had taken him to Iran, and that he was lucky to survive a terrorist bombing that had killed his abductors.\

-They'd been provided with sufficient evidence to believe that he was in a coma, but that he was otherwise in good health. Harold's family were told that they didn't know if the coma would last weeks or even years, but were also convinced that the U.S. Embassy was going to ensure his safe return to the United States once he was awake and authorities could question him about the people that had abducted him. In the meantime, they were told, by agreeing to allow him to stay in the care of the government overseas, all of his medical expenses would be covered, and that they would help to ensure that, upon Leviathan's successful enlistment into the Air Force, that he would be guaranteed the job that he wanted in the military.\

-Unfortunately, there was a possibility that he might miss his son's enlistment into the Air Force, and his graduation thereafter, as Harold's son had pre-enlisted, with plans to go into bootcamp shortly after his 18th birthday. It did, however, help to sell the cover story that his family were being given. This was all to keep Harold's mind at ease on the idea of not leaving Edfu before he could, at the very least, learn the basics that he would need to survive as one of the Undying. He was already learning how difficult things can be for the Udja-sen, although he had more backbone than many of them.\

-Harold quickly concocted "the Sefekhi handshake". This was pretty simple. He would keep a roll of coins handy for those times when Sefekhi would be eyeing him up as a target. Harold wouldn't give them the opportunity to strike first; if he got "that look" from the creepy fucks, he'd go straight up to the biggest one and punch him, or her, square in the face with that roll of coins in his fist. He did this knowing that it would create situations where he'd be harmed, but this wasn't self-destructive behaviour at all, this was self-preservation taken to the extreme, and the message was one that the Sefekhi respect. "Fuck around with Me and find out."\

-That same backbone would come to irritate the Shemsu-heru. While it wasn't necessarily *all* of them, it would be enough that he'd become blacklisted in the eyes of that sect, despite Horus never having indicated (or having had) any issues with Harold. Most Amenti, upon meetiing Horus, find themselves bowing and scraping. Harold wasn't one of those; he made eye contact, kept his composure, and spoke to Horus as he would with any equal. This INFURIATED the more fanatical members of the Sect, and they vowed to make Harold rue the day that he "disrespected" Horus as he had (in their eyes).\

-Further, there was this realisation of the reality of vampires. Harold didn't buy this shit about Egyptian gods being real, not exactly. In his mind, they were either really powerful mummies or otherwise strangely powerful mortals or wizards. Magic was less hard to grasp than it might be for many young undying. For one thing, the Church of Satan has Lesser Magic and Greater Magic. Of course, these two things aren't exactly magic in the sense of casting spells and transforming the world like Mages do.\

-In the CoS, Lesser Magic is simply using your charm to influence people. Greater Magic, ritual magic, that's psychodrama where you suspend your disbelief in hopes of attaining your desire. The point of Greater Magic is to have a healthy outlet through which to get out those destructive emotions through the psychodrama of ritual. If an effect actually results in your spell having the further results that have a notable impact, then this is a neat bonus with studying to better understand it (Satanists are skeptics).\

-With this in mind, Harold was able to conceputalise Hekau as a deeper level of Greater Magic, something that he calls, Greatest Magic. Like many Udja-sen, he moved away from the typical, Egyptian trappings. As can be expected, when certain influential Shemsu-heru got wind of this, they went so far as to try to claim that he had become a servant of Apophis. While *that* was quickly dispelled, they still continued to at least use it as ammunition against Harold, but they would not be why he would leave Edfu. He'd received word that his wife was sick with cancer, so Harold decided that it was time to cut off his time in Egypt.\

-He'd been told about the Council back in Starke, and he made it known, a bit more loudly than the Shemsu-heru liked, that he was going back to take care of his wife, and that if anyone tried to drag him into any introductions with the Council or any of the rest while he was caring for his wife, who he found out was in late stage, terminal condition, there would be Hell to pay. He returned to Starke, but it was a short return. There was better medical care to be had in Tampa.\

-Harold kept Leviathan enrolled in school in Starke, although that was coming to a close, as he was due to graduate early, and with honours. As time would permit it, at every chance that it would, Leviathan would come to Tampa as well, to spend time with his mother. Harold, meanwhile, was constantly at her side. He had no means to cure her, and he knew that he couldn't tell her anything about ghosts and that rot; he could only hope that she would have the strength in the next life, to make the most of whatever it would be for her, as she had been doing in this life. Mira would live to see her son's 18th birthday, on 19-November-2023, which he would spend with his parents, and arrangements were made for her to leave hospice for the day, to witness his graduation from the Air Force Academy.\

-Almost immediately after the Air Force Academy graduation, they had to rush to get her back to hospice, but the family were all grateful. Mira had seen her son reach manhood and witnessed him beginning the fulfilment of his dreams, by getting into the Air Force. She said her good-byes to her son, being adamant that she didn't want him to hamper his achievements watching her finish wasting away. -He couldn't be flown back to see her when she passed, but Leviathan's commanding officer made sure that he was excused from duty to spend the time in a Skype conference with his parents. Harold was at Mira's side, and they were able to say their goodbyes as a family. The funeral arrangements were discussed, and Leviathan was given leave to return home for the funeral. A week after that, he went back to base, and Harold took time travelling, seeing the places that he and his wife had visited on their vacations, as well as going to all of the places that they had on their bucket lists and never got to see as a couple. He spread some of her ashes at each of these places, until all that remained of these were the little bits that he and his son kept for themselves.\

The vampire was no Tremere, but it was an accomplished Thaumaturgee; the books at his fingertips were a far cry better than the crap that one would find in your typical occult bookshop.\
