Her grandmother had an occult shop on Bourbon Street that sold 'VooDoo' souvenirs and paraphernalia - charms, dolls, jewelry you name it. She and her younger sisters spent a lot of time with and learned a great deal from Bigmama Barrilleaux, a respected Mambo in the Voudoun community. Since her mother worked two jobs and her father was MIA from Operation Desert Storm, she and her sisters spent time at the shop and at Voudoun services after school and on weekends. She 'learned' to read tarot and ‘signs and portents’ from Bigmama and learned much about how to prepare and perform Voodoo Rituals.Her family didn't have a lot but they had a 'good' life.
