| Ashley couldn’t tell you what her whole name was, not the one she had to begin with. She could only remember small bits and pieces of her mom and dad from before. She remembers being happy or maybe that was all a dream. She remembered watching a cartoon with her mom and dad, about a fox named Robin and his friends running through the forest from a crooked sheriff and an evil prince. She liked that story and tried to always remember it. And Ashley was pretty sure she remembered the day they quit being her mom and dad though. They never came to pick her up from school that day. Her very good friend Johnny Smalls had only one leg from the war and he walked with a stick. He had bad pictures in his head from the war and Ashley tried to help him. She had another good friend, Tucker, that carried a sign and yelled at people about the ‘end times’. But if you talked to him about other things, he was very smart. And there were others that lived with her in the abandoned apartment complex. Mary Anne was a kind old lady and always had a can of soup to spare from her shopping cart if you got hungry.
