Backstory:
MORTAL LIFE

Use this section to give a brief history of your character's Mortal Life before the Resurrection

Before his joining with one of the Jing Shen, Zheng was once an ordinary man. He was born in Seattle to Zhao and Mei Lin on October 12, 1988, the Year of the Dragon. Zheng was a passionate youth, always hungry for learning. The thought of what all knowledge lay out there to be learned fascinated him, and intellectual pursuits dominated much of his life. During these pursuits, he came upon the Tao te Ching, and he found much guidance and inspiration within the pages of the ancient text.

Zheng went to college at the University of Stanford and in his time there he was able to achieve a Major in History with a Minor in Education. His passion was in knowledge of the world, and it was his desire to share that with others. It was this passion and his general Yin alignment which attracted the attention of the Xian Lung to him.

Before he could be gifted with the Elixir of Eternal Life however, he needed to be tested. Not all are suited to joining the Family of Heaven, and the Xian Lung wanted to ensure that he had the proper character for the calling. It was determined that he must be tested to see what his reaction would be should he learn of the existence of the supernatural horrors which haunt the earth and will rule in the Sixth Age.

A trail of information was laid, which when followed led Zheng to learn of the existence of the Kuei-jin that haunted Seattle. Rather than bury his head in the sand and pretend that he had learned nothing like so many, Zheng then proceeded to dig up as much information on these creatures as he could. There was a great deal of personal risk in this, the Wan Kuei would readily kill him if they learned that he knew of them. He would not be dissuaded by this however, others had to know about these creatures, because if they didn’t know, they would be entirely unable to protect themselves. It was for this selflessness and moral courage that he was chosen to receive the Elixir of Eternal Life and to join the ranks of the Family of Heaven.

THE JOINING

Use this section to give a brief history of your character's Joining with the Jing Shen

Just as Zheng was going to release the info and inevitably doom himself, the Xian Lung approached him and explained to him their purpose. They spoke of the Twilight Scholars, and their purpose of gathering all the information they could about the Supernaturals so that the coming Age of Darkness can be endured and a better one built afterwards. This appealed greatly to Zheng’s sense of purpose, and he gladly accepted a role within their ranks. He was taken to one of their temples within the Middle Kingdom and after a week of meditation and reflection, he was given the Elixir of Eternal Life.

With his body in a meditative position, his soul ascended to the Gates of Heaven. Here in this celestial realm, he was greeted first by an ancient spirit of Yin. This draconic servant of the Ebon Dragon introduced itself as Kaoyan to Zheng, and proceeded to put him to the question. The questions were quite pointed and at times hostile, questioning his intelligence, perceived purpose, and self worth. The intent was purely to see how he would react, to see if he could be easily riled, if he was too prideful, and if he could maintain a control on his emotions. By now Zheng had already become quite skilled in Meditation, and so he was quite able to keep himself calm and centered throughout this trial.

He passed this test, and Kaoyan now took a much more friendly manner with Zheng. Kaoyan proceeded to explain the nature of the Wu T’ian and the Xian Lung to him further, as well as what his purpose would be. Zheng was told further of the threats he would be called to face in his service to the Eight Immortals, of the coming Demon Emperor and the Sixth Age. He was given one more chance to turn back, but Zheng would not relent after having come so far and learned so much already. At this Kaoyan smiled, and floated closer to Zheng. Kaoyan stated that Zheng has his approval, and that with their combined might much might be done to help preserve the Earth. A single claw extended to touch Zheng's chest, and in that moment - dragon and man became as one, in that moment, and for all his moments to come. Thusly did he join the ranks of the Reborn. The Gates of Heaven then opened and he entered in. After that he met with the Eight Immortals and was given his official charge, the protection of the Ten Thousand Things and the preservation of knowledge.

THE REBORN

Use this section to give a brief history of your character's life as one of the Reborn, from the conclusion of the Elixir of Eternal Life, to his or her arrival in Starke.

After this he stayed for some time in the Middle Kingdom. In the temples of the Wu T’ian he trained in arts both Martial and Mystical. In incense filled chambers he meditated on the meaning of the Ten Heavenly Precepts. It was the precept of Passion for Learning that he most naturally gravitated to, and mastered it quite readily. He aided in several missions during his time in the Middle Kingdom, fighting against the hated Kuei-jin and aiding in efforts against the Wu Kuei. With his martial skills and razor sharp intellect, he proved quite the asset to the Family of Heaven. He went on this way for several years, before he was determined ready to leave the Middle Kingdom and aid in the Wu’Tian efforts in his home country, the United States.

Zheng left for Starke, Florida after this. The alliance of supernaturals there, along with the great number of fellow Reborn of various types made the area a prime location for furthering the work of the Twilight Scholars. Here he will be able to learn all there is to know about the other supernaturals, and help to ensure that the world endures after the Sixth Age.
