BIO
-Awakened during a mathematics lecture at the University of Florida. Professor turned out to be a Hermetic, and put him in touch with his mentor, Victoria Nazak. -Victoria was a member of House Tytalus, so his training has been incredibly difficult, and really forced him to stay on the alert. Tho he's improved rapidly, he still hasn't managed to beat her and claim membership in his own right. -Order wasn't the only one who noticed the Awakening--the Technocracy made an attempt at silencing him soon afterwards. Only a mysterious phone call got him out, and there were strange lights in the building immediately afterwards. They never found any bodies.

HISTORY
Matthew's journey into the world of magick didn't begin until the early years of college--although he later found out that the Hermetics had been watching him for much longer than that. At the time, he was living in the dorms on campus, taking an advanced mathematics course from Dr. Elsworth. One day, however, the mathematics seemed to spin on the board, until he passed out at his desk. Rather than waking up with a massive headache, he instead found himself in another realm--where he was guided by what could only be described as a dragon formed of solid crystal to discover an old, dusty tome containing the secrets of the universe, When he awoke, he was startled to find himself not in the classroom, but in Dr. Elsworth's office... where after a few cursory checks he had his Awakening explained to him. However, Elsworth wasn't to be his mentor--instead he was to learn from one of the Caesars of House Tytalus--and that turned out to be a massive pain in the butt. You'd think learning magick would be hard enough on it's own, but to top that off, you had to deal with a crazy master who'd attack you at random just to make sure you were prepared for the Ascension War. Really, it was just curiosity that kept him attending the semiregular lectures--the possibility of learning something new proved more alluring then the risk of having to dodge yet another sneak attack. But he never seemed to learn enough from his mentor, so he took to sneaking around other mages in the hopes of picking up tips and tricks where he could... In fact, all that sneaking around led him to discover the presence of a warehouse supposedly containing a ton of mystic items--the only issue was that the Technocracy had recently discovered it so there was a massive rush to relocate everything. In the chaos, he snuck inside hoping to find something to help keep his master at bay, when the Technocracy struck. At first it was chaos, screaming and fires springing up everywhere as the magick started to fly on both sides. With little time and less skill, it was all he could do to seal himself in a back room--and that's when the strangest thing happened. The room outside began to flash green, and the screams of dying men came from all over. When it eventually quieted down... he stepped outside to find both sides had been entirely annhilated--both the rival mages and the Technocracy operatives, by something...other. There wasn't any time to figure out what it was, but it'd bought him enough time to get out of there. He later found out the Technocracy had torched the entire facility afterwards rather than risk another attack. The book turned out to be nothing special--it was just a dusty green tome without anything special in it--but in Matthew's hands it proved a competent focus for his magic. But of added concern is that ever since finding that book, the green lights keep popping up in dangerous circumstances--and whenever he stops to examine them, there are almost always corpses of one form or another. Either something out there is trying to keep him safe, or there's more to that book than he originally thought... Either way it's a mystery he can't resist investigating. However, the real benefits came in the basement of that destroyed facility--whatever had happened caused a small trickled of Quintessence to leak through the site--and apparently neither the Technocracy nor the Traditions cared about the warehouse enough to have checked it since. A little minor warding, and it turned into the ideal location of a sanctum--if far from the most secure. However, he still hasn't managed to defeat his mentor--earning him the status of a full member of House Tytalus (and the right to add bani Tytalus to his name), but he's increasingly confident that day is soon approaching--especially as his ability to avoid Victoria has been increasing.
