Martial arts maneuvers:

• Hard Strike: Here’s a basic combat blow, focused with more skill than a wild punch. The hard variant involves a clenched fist or rigid fingers (the Tiger Claw technique), whereas a soft blow typically involves tripping the opponent or otherwise using his own force to hurt him.

• Snake Step: Shifting away from the blow, our martial artist deftly sidesteps a close or ranged attack. Naturally, he must be able to see it coming first. A successful roll acts as a dodge attempt with an additional three-dice bonus.

• Thunder Kick: A devastating flying kick. Hurling himself through the air, the martial artist focuses his chi and mass into a strike potent enough to end most fights immediately. In game terms, each success adds one additional die to the kick’s damage. A character cannot use the Thunder Kick more than once every five turns, however, as it demands intense focus and commitment to the blow. HISTORY

Madeline was born to hardworking Americans, an engineer and a secretary, descended from Irishmen, with the odd problem here and there, such as the few police visits, having the father be returned home in a police car and the more than modest bank loan. The average American family. Then followed four great years of being doted over until a certain somebody was not aware of the full consequences of electrifying concrete, leaving the girl a painful loose end. For such purposes has the Saint Martha's convent for lost and mistreated children rise, for where it did not pick up such victims of negligence that were a danger in other places, it also recruited for the Celestial Chorus. And they did try to give her this lifestyle.
Her tutors gave her the best education a girl in that situation can have, a general one and a very deep artistic and religious one. However math stuck most with the girl, which later bloomed in an interest in anything technological, an interest which manifested in Madeline taking apart anything she could get her hands on just to understand it, and like all slippery slopes it got her into trouble as she started sneaking out to visit electronics stores when that teen rebellion hit.
This is also where her world first gets magickal... as the chorus could see that she was showing obvious potential, just not in the right direction. Believing her escape was for the traditional reason, an hour long ritual... not that she recognized it as such... gave her the compulsion to not engage in the pleasures of the flesh. This proved no detriment to her aspiration, and the girl kept searching, kept sneaking off or looking in the convent for all manner of tech, mathematical formula or tools. All proved to show her just how to get closer to her passion.
Awakening. That moment when the world is shown for what it is, came to Madeline while committing to memory another book, another thousand sketches, equations, mechanics to fit inside the great plan she had in her head when she fell into that state of seeking, where she made sense of that grand plan she had been assembling in her head, thinking how she'd go to one day actually build such a thing, when it hit her... the world is like this, all just a big machine that needs its engineers, that needs that tune-up once in a while, that has the odd quirk here and there that just doesn't make sense and gives it all the more personality. She woke with fresh fanaticism for her craft, and the first sight of how the world around her was made, linked and moved. Soon enough she started to see that her her tutors were interfering in this great plan, and their own fanaticism for a divine order just did not fit with hers. A man came to the convent one day, a man in the most well tailored and old timey suit she'd seen, one she caught in conversation and he droned over for hours about machines, but at the same time not machines. A few words out of her, how doors where just links or of how material worked together and which would be better.... saw him extend an invitation to join the Sons of Ether.
Madeline did not need convincing, and while she packed and got her affairs in order, she looked once more among the convent's inventory, a dozen books told her just what she wanted, in a roundabout way, as well as finding the most beautiful thing down there in the form of a simple wolf's pendant, but it spoke to her in a way that dwarfed the books. That night, Madeline ran away with a trunk full of books and a wonder they'd never noticed they had. If only it had ended there with them.
While she had a good few months of proper training among the Etherites, training under the man that brought her and taught her of machine, of matter and numbers, of tools and the importance of books. Reality started to blur a bit as the girl could start seeing what she had not before, and soon enough she could mold those same things in ways she did not imagine possible, if one did not understand how the world worked, with all its invisible screws and hidden maintenance panels. But the Chorus did not forget her, and considering the situation, they came back in force, claiming first takes, that the girl worked with god and that she had stolen the books. The book theft stuck in the form of a brand, but the rest were mere opinion, something mages worked on daily, and if the girl already showed talent, their way was nothing but alien.
Starke, Florida was quite the place to set up, even with the other auto shops in town, but after getting her garage, courtesy of her mentor's support... she found not only material for her mundane hobby, but inspiration for her supernatural one.
