Backgrounds:

  • Pacts 2:

-Carrie Samson is a teenager that had frequented the library that Edward works at. Starting a little over a year ago, she and Edward began their forays into the occult together. When Apsael took over Edward’s body, she offered her Faith and loyalty to him in exchange for strength and protection. Apsael was happy to offer the latter, as Edward saw Carrie as a daughter, and those feelings had begun to affect Apsael in the librarian’s body.
-Gregory Morgan is Edward Morgan’s older brother. He was the third member of the ritual that Edward had attempted to enact. When Apsael entered Edward’s body, Gregory offered his Faith to Apsael in exchange for the demon curing his ALS.

  • Resources 2: Working at the Bradford County Public Library in Starke, Edward has been able to sustain himself. This has been supplemented by leftover money that he had made working as a teacher from his mid into his late twenties. He owns a decent car, a mid-sized two bedroom home and a good amount of books of the occult (and recently demonology).
  • Contacts 2: Despite what he’d have others believe, Edward Morgan did not get into the occult on his own. He had managed to find two knowledgeable individuals that often pointed him in the right direction. Apsael still uses their knowledge, when the situation calls for it.

-Emily Deccard specializes in a specific branch of occultism that focuses on demons and demonology.
-Brant Kellar is a Correspondence Mage that specializes in wards and summoning rituals. Although Edward was not awakened, Kellar humored his interests by pointing him in the direction of a few (fake) rituals, including the one that Edward attempted.

  • Library 2: Over the years, Edward had been accumulating a personal library in his home filled with basic occult tomes and even some truly magickal knowledge. Now that Apsael has taken Edward's body, he's continued to expand this collection-- rather rapidly, with the help of Carrie and his contacts.

BIO:

-Apsael watched the mechanisms of fate happily until the Fall. -He remembers joining the Silver Legion and some of viewing humanity from its place on Earth… and then he was sent to the abyss with the other fallen. -Apsael escaped the pit with the other fallen, and was cast into the body of Edward Morgan, a librarian in Starke, Florida. -After gaining two pacts and reading the entirety of the library, Apsael moved on to Starke, ready to spread his influence (hopefully) and his knowledge to the rest of humanity..

HISTORY:

Apsael was made— like many others of his kind— to guard the heavens. No, not the residence of God and his angels, as the mortals now believe heaven to be, but the mechanism of creation. As a Fiend, Apsael existed to watch over the cosmos and it’s design, helping to make sure the pattern of the universe continued to fulfill each and every event that was written by the great machine. For countless years, he kept his gaze on the pattern of reality, until He created two new creatures: Adam and Eve. Although they did not initially have what humans would now call ‘free will,’ Apsael recalls being fascinated by their… potential. Even now, he can’t remember why. When Lucifer offered them more than their meaningless existence, Apsael was one of many that watched intently, loving Adam and Eve more than what they had been created for. Eager to see what that potential could accomplish, Apsael was among the ‘fallen angels’ that followed the Morningstar to care for humanity like God had refused to.

He remembers joining the Silver Legion under Asmodeus, and studying the mortals in this world. For the first time, Apsael had left the heavens to walk amongst humankind and watch over their progress. He fell in love with their tenacity, but also grew to despise the faith that they seemed to put blindly in the creator that would have kept them mindless sheep… These were among his last memories before his time in the abyss. Luckily, they were also what helped keep him mostly sane in the cold, meaningless depths of the pit. They carried him through endless years of silence, and they were what gave him the strength to push against the barrier of the pit. The last thing that he remembers of hell was looking back one last time as he slipped through the cracks and into the storm…

Just as when he found himself exiled to the abyss with the other fallen, Apsael was shocked and confused when he was thrown from the storm and into the world. Just like the pit, it seemed to be devoid of a regular pattern— where there had once been a great machine determining the fate of the world was now what could be described as a rusted bit of clockwork, just barely moving and full of missing pieces. He felt this only for a few moments before he opened his eyes— no, not *his* eyes. Edward Morgan’s eyes.

Edward Morgan was a librarian— Apsael could remember that, for some reason. More than that, he was dying. It wasn’t a literal death, or even an immediate one, Edward was simply an avid intellectual who had grown stagnant. Apsael had fragments of Edward’s memories rushing into him, mixing with his own countless millennia of experiences. Edward could no longer bear where he was. He searched for answers in the occult, and recruited Carrie Samson— a teenage regular to the library that he had been close to— in this task. Eventually, he had found a ritual to enlightenment. It required months of preparation and— when the time came— an offering of blood. Even afraid of pain, Edward had happily mixed his blood with Carrie’s and his brother at the center of a ritual circle. He got every detail right— chanted every word perfectly…. but nothing happened. In less than a second, Edward was spiraling again. If this hadn’t worked, then what was there? Nothing. That was the answer… And just like that, Edward was *nothing*, making room for Apsael to enter. When Carrie and Gregory saw Edward’s glazed eyes snap back to life, and they heard his confused cries, they were eager to offer themselves to whatever had taken him. They initially thought that he would offer them the same enlightenment, but when Apsael’s visage was revealed to them, they instead asked for more personal things, which Apsael was all to happy to grant them.

In this new body, with a confusing mix of old and new memories, Apsael— or was it Edward? No, Apsael— embraced the world around him. He took up Edward’s job at the library, reading nearly every book on the shelves from The Very Hungry Caterpillar to the dozens of dusty history books kept in a dark corner of the library. A month later, Apsael found himself exploring the town of Starke. Shakily, he’s begun to branch out into the world. Seeing how much Carrie and Gregory are able to do under their pacts, he’s chosen to invest his time in developing humanity through exchanges (and, yes, occasional manipulation).
