Description

Physical Description:
Silas stands at 6’1” tall, weighing around 170 lbs. His build is on the thinner side, being only lightly muscled due to a primarily academic life. His short, well kept black hair has begun to gray and there are several silvery streaks in it. He wears contacts for his blue gray eyes and his gaze carries a certain dispassionate, analytical intensity to it. When it comes to fashion, he favors either a suit or in more casual settings he will wear a sweater with chinos.
Backstory:
Silas was born on December 7, 1972 to Edward and Eliza Stonehearst in Tampa, Florida. They were a fairly well off family, and were able to put young Silas in the finest private schools that Florida had to offer. He proved a natural academic as he grew up, and through his parent’s wealth and the scholarships he earned, Silas scored a place at Princeton University. There he earned himself a Doctorate in Psychiatry and in time he found himself a well paying job at a mental institution in Tallahassee, Florida. In time he rose to become one of the head doctors at the institution. There Silas prospered for years, but it would not last forever.

A Malkavian by the name of Emily Williams had heard of Silas and his work. He had great success in helping patients overcome their varied mental illnesses, and his research in the field of psychological treatment was beginning to become quite well regarded. She decided that it was time Silas learned of mental illness in a far more personal manner. When Silas retired home one night after work, Emily was waiting for him. She set upon him and dragged him to the basement, wherein she drained him dry and drip fed his corpse her madness-laden vitae. When the Curse took hold and the strength of unlife filled his limbs, Emily sat there waiting for him, a curious look on her face as she awaited to see how he might have been changed. On the face of things he seemed to be just as rational and logical as he was in life, but she foretold that his obsession with reason and logic would become a madness all its own. She stayed only to tell him the essentials of his existence, and afterwards departed, eager to see what he would do with this information.

Silas rejected outright that this was some form of mythical vampirism, and at once bent all his efforts towards researching his new condition. He pored over many medical texts searching for anything of relevance, until eventually he stumbled upon the research of one Dr. Harold Schere. The Doctor’s work described a disease named Schere’s Disease, which explained many of the symptoms that he currently suffered. This seemed much more reasonable to him than tales of a murderous peasant cursed by God. He continued on with his life as best he could after this, working a night shift at the Institution, whilst also becoming obsessed with researching his new condition and how it might be cured.

His tests started out fairly mundane, but would eventually become more and more eccentric and at times cruel. Silas would unconsciously Dominate his test subjects into complying and signing waivers for his tests. Additionally, as patients would find themselves successfully treated of their current mental illness, he would unconsciously use Dementation to cause new ones to flare up, which he would proceed to experiment on fixing. His interactions with his fellow “infected” were generally quite limited during this time. Silas would interact with them as needed to ensure that he was secure from their depredations, and at times joining in on attacks against the Sabbat for new test subjects.

His tests and experiments naturally took a great toll on his Humanity. He was unwittingly wandering straight into the jaws of the Beast, and might have fallen to it entirely over time, were it not for him having met Richard Longcross. In return for assisting him with various objectives across the city, Richard taught him the ways of the Path of the Scorched Heart. It was an arduous path to reaching the Scorched Heart’s enlightenment, but in the end he did and it proved a natural fit for his obsessively rational nature.

Even from his isolated position apart from most of the society of the infected, he heard tales of the conflicts besetting Starke and Jacksonville. Much of it was of course superstitious nonsense, but there was a great deal of potential there for his research. So it was that he sought out a new job at a similar mental institution in Jacksonville, and was offered a job working as a lead Psychiatrist on the night shift.
