Merits:

Flaws:
1) (Removed by Story) Flaw 1 Devil's mark is removed (for free), instead Benjamin gets a nordic tattoo "The Norse symbol of Awakening surrounded by the words Willpower, truth, self, harmony, command in norse forming a circle around the Awakening symbol
2) Otherworldy Taint - He has one Emerald Green eye and one Topaz Yellow eye which are the phsycial signs of his Awakening, though he normally hides this with sunglasses or contacts.
3) Bad Liar - Due to his Avatar's Essence he finds the truth much easier to speak than lying
4) Criminal Record - Multiple counts of loitering and criminal trespassing due to him being where he shouldn't in his quest for the True Language.
5) Low Alcohol Tolerance - As stated. He can't have just one beer without getting a buzz.

Background and History
Benjamin's former life before Awakening was nothing you couldn't find anywhere else in north america. His parents were middle class and made just enough to put him through college to study finance and real estate. They recently passed away, one through heart failure and the other through natural causes, leaving him a decent sized inheritance. Using the inheritance he has been buying up various properties around the country and selling/renting them (often through third parties and intermediaries) as a means to build up his personal fortune.
During college is when he started his slow process of Awakening. For his Minor he studied Folklore and began to notice two common themes between all cultures that reference magic. He saw that in just about every mythology and instance of folklore, the spoken and written word seemed to hold power. This lead to him comparing the various stories, which lead into studies of modern and ancient occult practices since they often tie together, and from there began to understand that there was more to the world than what is obviously seen. He took this further and began to look into everything he could to find that kernel of truth hidden within, traveling far and wide. Everything from pop culture, science, old myths, television and new age mysticism all seemed to have that same link of language. The second thing he noticed was that items of power existed in every single bit of lore, so that became one of his main focuses. This lead to him learning a couple crafts so that he could make the items himself and not cause suspicion when he needed 100 silk shirts left out in the light of the full moon, for practice of course.
In his travels he has come to meet a few others like him. People and creatures that seem just a touch away from normal, able to grasp a tiny bit of what is Real. Knowing that many of them can be hard pressed for basic survival needs, Benjamin has used some of his money and investments to set up a charity fund that is used specifically to assist the supernatural beings he comes across that need help.
Benjamin is constantly on the lookout for new lore to gleam that bit of truth from and has heard on the rumor mill that a certain town in Florida has a surprisingly large number of sources to tap, though what those sources are he has yet to discover. He has recently packed up, bought a place in this floridian town to live and developed a small node there, and plans to start his new life here in search of the ever elusive True Language that will open up all aspects of reality.
