Backstory

Physical Description:
5'5, fair skinned, slender, blue eyes, black hair. Wears a vintage but modest style of dress.

Personality:
Deeply religious, a pacifist, kind, and humble. Lillian prefers to help others and worry about them over herself. She's passionate about music, and has a talent for it, but it is second to her faith. Lillian sees her existence as a test a faith to prove her devotion, and she values maintaining her humanity to be very high. She's very hard to offend, but dislikes hurting or upsetting anyone. She believes that all vampires could find salvation if they seek it, but she's never pushy about her faith and will never get into a religious argument.

Backstory:
In 1890, Lillian was born under the name of Lavinia Catherine Tyler in Staffordshire, England. She and her family were terribly poor, living in time where their Queen and Country was very anti-Catholic. The mind-set of the predominantly Anglican society made work hard to find. Lillian was the oldest of five children. Throughout her youth, her parents also had a few other children that didn't live past infancy due to one illness or another. A household of seven people was very hard to keep fed, especially when her parents were illiterate, and she herself could only barely read.

At the age of 16, she knew she was expected to get married, and start a family of her own. Having been raised in a world of extreme poverty, she couldn't bear to see her own family suffer, let alone start a new one that would be stuck in the same situation. She was one more mouth to feed, and no longer wanted to be a burden. Earning an income would be the only choice she had to help her family. So, one early morning just before dawn, she ran away from the little hovel her family called home. Leaving nothing more than a note explaining her decision, and how deeply sorry she was for leaving them. With a bit of luck and a pretty face, she managed to get a job as a maid in the home of local nobility, Lord and Lady Dauncey. They were a small, well-educated family with more money than they had morals, but Lillian set her feelings aside in hopes of a brighter future.

She didn't mind doing chores, it kept her hands busy and her mind away from worrying about her family. With what little money she earned, she sent all of it to her family, though unable to know if they ever received it or not. The harder she worked, the little more and more she could send them. This was a protestant household, so of course she had to keep her beliefs to herself. Unable to attend any kind of Mass, all she could do was pray on the rosary she was given as a child. Every night, alone in her closet of a room, she would light a small candle. In front of the candle, she'd lay an old and tattered prayer card of the Blessed Virgin. She'd then pray on her rosary for hours. Once finished, she'd blow out the candle, and put the prayer card and rosary back underneath her bedding to keep them hidden.

Over the years, she worked in that household without any complaints. She made friends with the other servants, as they in turn helped her gain a basic education. She discovered a love for art, poetry and literature, even if the only time she had to experience such luxuries was when her employers weren't around. The family she worked for also enjoyed such things, having many instruments, books, and artwork on display. In what little spare time she had, Lillian managed to teach herself how to play the piano. Whenever she was certain that no one else was around to hear, she'd practice and indulge her newly discovered talent.

Eventually, her secret got out, but the master of the house was impressed. He and his wife would often host lavish parties, and they began to have Lillian play the piano and provide the entertainment. She let the attention go to her head, it created an ego, which caused her to pray less and less until she stopped her nightly prayers all together. She became the darling new pet of those lavish parties, entertaining various levels of nobility. She was young and naive, and this fact was exploited.

Various gentlemen would flirt and charm her, and she ate up every ounce of it. She wasn't aware that she was being used and not actually valued as a person. One particular frequent party guest gave her more attention than others. He was a wealthy Frenchman named Ambroise. He was handsome, seemingly kind, and very charming. She hung on his every word, and he seemed to care about not only her looks, but also her talent. More-so than anyone else. This went on for months, until she absolutely adored him, believing that he actually cared about her. She became addicted to his and everyone else's attention, it was euphoric and enchanting.

One nice, she was invited to give a private performance at his home. He sent a car to pick her up, and she looked as presentable as possible for being just a maid. She was completely infatuated with him and would be willing to do anything he asked. Once she arrived, she did in fact give a short, private performance, but then his true intentions were made known. The evening then turned to one of intimacy and absolute passion. She gave him the remainder of her innocence, and she didn't regret it. That night, she was gifted with the Embrace.

He taught her everything she needed to know about Kindred society. They travelled together, attending many fabulous parties, especially between England and France. They both lived a very libertine lifestyle, indulging in whatever and whomever. After she was granted her independence from him, she remained by his side. She was his pet, and she craved his presence and praise. He was her drug, and she was always willing to do anything he asked. She was blind to his arrogance, to his snobbish self-absorbed behavior, as he was perfect in her eyes. Once the piano was invented, she quickly learned how to play that. Ambroise introduced her to playwrights, poets, musicians, and many other lovers of the arts. She grew accustomed to all manner of indulgences, and a hedonistic lifestyle became her own. She stayed loyal to him for 20 years, until one night, in the privacy of his haven, she witnessed him being unnecessarily cruel and abusive to a young servant girl that had accidentally tripped and broken a vase. She had seen this behavior come from him before, but she hadn't previously noticed or cared, having been so entranced by him for so long. This time was different, though. In the scared girl's eyes, she saw herself, remembering where she came from and who she used to be. When the poor girl was finally excused back to her quarters, Lillian had a lot to think about.

She finally realized how far she had strayed from God, that she was living in sin, and she recalled all of the horrible things she had done alongside her sire. He was truly a monster, and she no longer wanted to be one herself. She was desperate for salvation, and needed to escape, but was too afraid to confront her sire about this epiphany. She had to wait for when the time was right before she could leave. One evening, while Ambroise was out on business, Lillian packed up what belongings she could carry on her own, and disappeared into the night. Much like what she did when she left home as a teenager, she left nothing more than a note explaining her actions, but this time she wasn't sorry.

She travelled for some time, trying to find herself. While in Ireland, she came across a rural yet beautiful cathedral. She felt compelled by her guilt to enter and go to confession. She told the priest everything, all of her sins, whether he believed her or not. He was very patient and kind, despite how crazy she must've sounded. Her grief and guilt were so overwhelming that she welcomed final death, but he instead gave her absolution. A great weight was lifted off of her soul. She then sat through Mass for the first time in over a century. It was so beautiful that it brought her to tears. Her emotions were raw and powerful. The way he said Mass was magnificent and awe-inspiring. She could truly feel the love of the Holy Mother, and the Mercy of God in this place.

For weeks, she regularly went to confession, attended Mass, and just sat there in prayer. Sometimes on a nightly basis. She got to know the head priest, who said Mass that first night. She gained his trust, and wanted to preserve his holiness and guidance forever. One night, being so moved by her own devotion and religious passion, she embraced him. It took some time for him to understand what she did and what he had become. He wasn't happy about it, but he forgave her. She once again felt guilt, but deep in her heart knew she did the right thing. She taught him about Kindred society, though he didn't care for it or politics very much. He saw his new unlife as penance, another cross to bare. She relied on him for guidance and salvation. They travelled together for some time, as he would visit various chapels and cathedrals. She posed as his housekeeper in mortal society.

After a few centuries, they'd occasionally part ways to do their own things, but would always keep in touch and regularly reunite for a period of time. After the Vatican II, the Church had permanently changed. Neither of them liked the changes, as they both preferred the Latin Mass. He was a Sedevacantist, but mostly kept his feelings towards the false pope private. He refused to say the Novus Ordo Mass, and this reassured Lillian that embracing him was the right thing to do. He was preserving the beauty of the True Church. He kept her humble and was the only priest she'd confess to, the only one she trusted with her salvation. His disdain for politics influenced her to dislike it also. She never cared for the pettiness, the backstabbing, and the snobbery that most of her clan were so fond of.

In 2019, Father Cassian was offered to take over a chapel in Sanford, Fl. Lillian went with him to help care for the property and aid him in whatever he needed. Being so close, they joined the domain of Orlando. Lillian taught music on the side, along with selling her embroidery to help pay bills. Her passion for music and her devotion to the chapel were one in the same, though she held her faith higher in her heart. She'd occasionally play the organ at Mass and fill in as choir director when needed to.

The domain in Orlando saw darkness and trouble. The chapel was desecrated by a local sabbat pack, parishioners were murdered in a blasphemous manner, and other such horrors happened that made the priest leave the city. Now that Father Cassian had returned to Ireland, she was now alone. Without his guidance, she felt lost, and was worried she'll return to a life of decadence and hedonism. She hadn't thought about her sire and his sinful lifestyle in centuries, but now her mind can't help but to occasionally wader. How was he doing? Was he mad that she left? Was he even still alive?

Lillian tried to continue her life in Orlando, be more sociable, and help the domain of that city as best she could, but the issues in that city only grew. She was sick of the politics and backstabbing, and saw a need to move again after realizing that living in such a large and busy city wasn't for her. Lillian left for a smaller, (seemingly) less corrupt domain. She enjoyed the quiet, rural life, and previously had heard of Starke in passing. She has now recently moved to this small town hoping for a more quiet existence, and to regain the parts of herself that Orlando had caused her to lose.

She purchased a small home in the area, and regularly travels to Jacksonville to attend Mass. Saint Michael the Archangel is the only traditional Catholic church in the area, and they only say the Latin Mass - never the new Mass. The priest of that chapel is now also her retainer, so she can ensure there will always be an even Mass for her to attend.

She still teaches music, sells her embroidery work, and does sewing alterations to help with money. She can’t bear to hunt and deceive as a means of feeding, so she only feeds via willing donors. Two of her music students happily let her drink what she needs from them, though having to feed at all still hurts her heart and causes her to spend an hour or two in prayer afterwards.
